The Instructional Centre on the north campus of UTSC marked the beginning of the phase of construction north of Ellesmere Avenue. This facility is a significant addition to the campus due to it addressing the space shortages of the campus and for its visibility in relation to the surrounding context.

The 165,000 square foot, 4-storey facility includes teaching spaces, student areas and faculty offices for the Management and Computer and Mathematical Sciences (CMS) programs. State-of-the-art lecture halls with seating for 350, 120, 80 and 4 rooms with 60-person capacity are designed with the careful attention afforded theatres, with prime consideration given to sightlines, acoustics and an intimacy achieved by horseshoe and oval-shaped seat configurations. Each hall has advanced digital capabilities and displacement ventilation for optimal comfort levels. Smaller teaching spaces of 40 and 25 seat classrooms as well as group study areas are also included in the program.
