The building is home to the Departments of Management, Computer and Mathematical Sciences and Co-operative Learning. State-of-the-art technology has been used in classrooms and lecture halls, including Canada’s largest undergraduate finance lab which resembles a high tech trading floor. Lecture halls are designed with advanced digital capabilities and to modern theatrical standards, with careful attention to sightlines, acoustics, and ventilation.
The Instructional Centre is certified as LEED Silver standard and features green roofs and rooftop solar panels. The dramatic vertical and horizontal sunshades on the exterior minimize glare and solar heat gain. Designed by the multi-award-winning Canadian firm Diamond and Schmitt Architects, who also designed the adjacent Environmental Science and Chemistry Building, the 165,000-square-foot (15,300-square-metres), four-storey building opened in 2011.
